The Challenge
The Sterling client is a massive industrial-products distributor. Since its establishment in 1940’s, the company had grown its footprint to almost 100 locations across 16 states.
To continue meeting its complex business requirements, the corporation needed to upgrade its datacenter operations to a platform that would scale elastically, simplify and enhance management, improve and centralize security policy, and provide increased resiliency.
The company had been experiencing performance issues and data-management sprawl with its legacy Hyper-V environment, resulting in missed service level agreements and some client dissatisfaction issues.
The Solution
The company contacted Dell and Sterling in the fall of 2019 to seek help envisioning its future state, for mapping requirements to capabilities, and for designing its modern datacenter. Sterling performed a detailed discovery and architected a Dell EMC VxRail solution with Sterling Consulting Services to migrate the company’s legacy Hyper-V platform onto VMware vSAN.
Sterling’s Professional Consulting Team provided a turnkey solution, deploying the VxRail to support the company’s ERP platform included assessment, design and planning, implementation, migration of legacy Hyper-V workloads, and testing to deliver a scalable and resilient hyper-converged solution.
The outcome of the engagement was a simplified environment leveraging HCI, storage, and virtualized compute — all managed via a single interface—reducing complexity and improving performance gains.
